Dr. Matthias I. Okoye is a practicing physician and lawyer, and the director of the Nebraska Institute of Forensic Sciences, Inc., and Nebraska Forensic Medical Services, P.C. In addition, he is an associate professor of forensic pathology at Creighton University School of Medicine, Omaha, Nebraska. He is also an adjunct professor of forensic medicine and pathology at several universities abroad. He was formerly the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia Washington, D.C., and Associate Professor of Forensic Pathology at Georgetown University, George Washington University, and Howard University, Washington, D.C.

Dr. Okoye is a consultant forensic pathologist with the State of Nebraskaís Office of the Attorney General, serves as a coronerís physician and forensic pathologist for Lancaster County, Nebraska, as well as, for several other counties in Nebraska. Dr. Okoye is also an attending pathologist at Lincolnís BryanLGH Medical Center and St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center. In addition, he is president and CEO of the Lincoln Law Firm of Okoye & Associates.

Born in Nigeria, Dr. Okoye received his medical degrees (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Lagos College of Medicine, Lagos, Nigeria and the British Conjoint Board before serving as a senior house officer in surgery and pathology for the Nigerian Ministry of Health. He was a junior fellow in pathology at Kingís College, University of Cambridge, U.K., in 1972. In 1976, he came to the United States and undertook residencies in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. He also took a residency in forensic pathology at the state of Marylandís Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Dr. Okoye also earned both a master of science degree in pharmaceutical science (toxicology) from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a law degree from the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Pathology and the American Board of Legal Medicine.

He is a member of the State Bars of Pennsylvania and Nebraska and is also admitted to practice in several Federal Courts and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the American College of Legal Medicine, Board of Trustees of the American board of Legal Medicine, Editorial Board of the Journal of International Academy of Legal Medicine, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. He is a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, National Association of Medical Examiners, and a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists. He has also lectured and published extensively in forensic pathology, forensic toxicology, and legal medicine.
